Cutting boards are important for food safety. As most of you know, both Debbie and I are vegetarians. Actually, we are bacontarians. That’s right. We are vegetarians who eat bacon. Our husbands, however, are carnivores. Everyone always asks if this causes a problem at meantime. No problem…just lots of side dishes!
What does cause a problem, however, is my husband cutting his bloody meat parts on my wood cutting boards! We had numerous arguments over cutting board etiquette, until I found a solution. The Container Store sells cutting board mats in four colors: red for meat, yellow for poultry, blue for fish, and green for fruit and vegetables. Just place them over a wood cutting board (or any cutting board) and there is no contamination. My husband was fully trained after only one week. One less thing to fight over….
