Downsized Living: Adding Color

Like many Americans, I have recently downsized from a spacious house to an apartment.  Actually, I do not mind downsized living.  I am really enjoying my modern loft apartment, but the beige on white on beige color scheme is a bit boring.  I have added color with furnishings, but what to do in the bathroom?

I got the idea to use washi tape, for a temporary punch of color, from the A Beautiful Mess blog.  This craft tape is similar to masking tape, but comes off surfaces cleanly.  It is available in many different colors, patterns, and widths.

This is what my bathroom looked like before I added the tape.  The bathroom finishings are nice, but the lack of color was boring.

I purchased 3 rolls of washi tape at the craft store for under $15.  I used a step stool and a pair of scissors, and completed the entire project in about 10 minutes.  I am not sure how the tape will hold up to the steam from the shower, but I am happy with the outcome.  I wonder what I can ‘washi’ next…?
