By now, everyone knows that those disposable, plastic grocery bags are bad for the environment. I am still spooked by an episode of Oprah with a video clip of huge swirls of trash in our oceans. It pictured sweet, little turtles tied up in our discarded plastic bags limping across the beach. That episode scared me straight and motivated me to make a change.
I always kept my reusable shopping bags in my car, but honestly, I often forgot to bring them into the grocery store. Once I rectified that situation, I realized that there were more opportunities for reusable bags. When at the mall, the craft store, or boutique shopping in my neighborhood, I often picked up a few items and received a shopping bag that I had to recycle once at home. Thankfully, I found an easy solution that allowed me to always have a reusable shopping bag handy in my purse at The Container Store:
This bag rolls up to the size of a small tomato paste can and weighs almost nothing. I always keep one in my purse, and use it all the time. This is such an easy and inexpensive, eco-friendly change. Last year, I gave one to each my friends for Christmas and they love them as much as I do!
