Hot Cocktails: Glögg

I am going to invite over a group of friends this Friday night for Swedish Glögg and hot appetizers.  I love how cooking Glögg makes my whole house smell like Christmas!  Glögg (aka Mulled Wine) is a beverage made with red wine, (either alcoholic or non-alcoholic) which is cooked with various spices and served either hot or warm.

Hot Cocktails: Glögg

1 jug Burgundy wine (4 liters)
1/3 cup Williams-Sonoma mulling spices
1 cup granulated sugar (or more to taste)

Pour the entire jug of Burgundy wine in a large stock pot over medium-high heat.  Place mulling spices in a large mesh tea ball or spice bag (available at Whole Foods) and drop into wine.  Add sugar and stir until dissolved.  Simmer, uncovered, for 30 minutes.  Serve in mugs with a cinnamon stick.

I like to transfer the Glogg to a crockpot next to a stack of coffee cups and a ladle so guests can serve themselves.  Trust me, this recipe is a winner!

    I love mulled wine! Haven’t made it in years but thinking of running to the store for some cheap wine right now! I always used a crockpot as I could leave it plugged in so that we can continue refilling mugs with warm liquid. Thanks for sharing! M
