Super Bowl Cheat Sheet

This Super Bowl Cheat Sheet includes everything you need to know for the big game.  For those of you who don’t get into football, but love a good party, this will help you hold your own.

Super Bowl Cheat Sheet by The Sweet Spot Blog Here are the top 10 things to know about the 2014 Super Bowl:

1. What is the Super Bowl?
The championship game between the two NFL conferences – the National Football Conference (NFC) and the American Football Conference (AFC).

2.  Who’s Playing?
Seattle Seahawks (NFC) vs. Denver Broncos (AFC)

3.  What color should I wear?
Blue & Green (Seahawks), Orange & Blue (Broncos)…or to remain neutral just wear blue.

4.  Where are they playing?
New York – officially New Jersey – at the MetLife stadium.

5.  What’s unique about Super Bowl 48?
The game will be played outdoors during the infamous polar vortex…it will be very cold!

6.  I’m not a football fan, why should I watch?
It’s not just the Super Bowl of football, it’s the Super Bowl of TV commercials as well!  Preview the Bud Light/Arnold Schwarzenegger commercial with Spot’s interpretation.

7.  I’m so bored watching the first half, why should I hang in there?
Bruno Mars is performing at halftime!  Hang in there!

8.  Great halftime show, now I’m bored again.  Why should I stick around after halftime?
More great commercials!!

9.  Interesting fact about the Seattle Seahawks:
Marshawn Lynch has signed an endorsement agreement with Skittles candy.   The Seahawk fans, at Seattle’s CenturyLink Field, throw Skittles at Lynch after he scores touchdowns.  It seems that his mother gave him these “power pellets” before his Pop Warner games.

10.  Interesting fact about the Denver Broncos:
The Broncos quarterback (Peyton Manning) had a terrible neck injury forcing him to miss the entire 2011 season and wasn’t even allowed to walk as part of his rehab.

Sadly, as a non-American who’s lived in the US for almost 3 years now, I’ve never actually managed to grasp the whole Super Bowl thing. Maybe it makes me sound like an ignoramus, but it’s mainly because I’m not a football person (the various versions of football in Australia equally make me yawn). Anyhow, loved your cheat sheet! It really did explain a few things I had no idea about :)

I’m glad I read this, I am married to a huge football fan and didn’t even know who was in the super bowl this year :) I usually do watch the game for the commercials only.

I always record the game on my DVR so I can go back and watch the commercials I miss! Commercials and the halftime show are sometimes better than the game! Thanks for stopping by Heather!

Hi Madeleine! I was raised in a football family so have grown up enjoying the sport. But totally understand why it might make you yawn! We lived in New Zealand for a year and tried to really get into rugby. And Australian rules football was fun to watch but never really got the hang of either game. Thanks for stopping by!
