Uber Mobile App: Don’t Drink & Drive!

With New Year’s Eve just around the corner, I wanted to share one of my favorite mobile apps with you.  The Uber Mobile App is a great alternative to using a taxi service or relying on a designated driver.

The Uber Mobile App connects people like you an me with a personal driving service that would normally be reserved for celebrities.  Instead of calling an unreliable, dirty taxi to pick you up (at some point in the future), you can enter your location on your phone and request a nice, black town car with a driver who will give you top notch service.

For example, if you needed a pick-up at the West Elm store in Santa Monica, you would simply follow these three steps:

1. Enter the address where you would like to be picked up or use the GPS on your phone to find your location.  This will return a screen shot of the available vehicles in your area and the estimated arrival time (generally 3-5 minutes).
2. Select amongst three levels of service–uberX, Black Car, or SUV–with three levels of pricing.
3. Confirm your pick-up address.  You will receive a text message with the driver’s name, photo, car make and model, and license plate number.  You will also receive a text when they arrive.  They have your credit card on file, so you do not need to pay the driver (and they do not accept tips).  Uber will send a receipt to your email address on file.  It’s that easy…!

The Uber Mobile App is available for download on both iPhone and Android devices for free.  Once you download the mobile app, you will set up your account with a mobile phone number, email address, and credit card.  Uber is still expanding their service areas, but you can find it in most large cities throughout the US.

This is the perfect party favor for New Year’s Eve, so no more excuses…set up your Uber account today!
